And You Shall Receive Power
Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you: and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Power is defined as the ability to do work. It is the pressure or effort you apply on an object to cause a shift in the position of that object. God does not leave His children without power. This is the reason He gave the Holy Spirit to the church. The Holy Spirit was given to fortify Christians against the world and its antics.
The Holy Spirit is the expression of God’s power on earth. He moves God’s children to work for the expansion of God’s kingdom on earth. Scripture describes Him as our comforter, teacher, advocate, counsellor, helper, intercessor, etc. I call Him my best friend and senior partner. He was sent to guide us into all truth (John 16:13), to open our eyes and reveal to us the plans, purposes, and promises of God in scriptures.
No one can do the work of God with his or her own strength or effort. We can only do the work of God by the strength that the Lord provides. And that strength is the Holy Spirit Himself. If you need the power to heal, deliver, evangelise, prophesy, or teach the word of God, the Holy Spirit has been given to you to supply that power. If you have received the gift of the Holy Spirit, then you can ask Him for power – that is why He is there in the first place. If you don’t have the Spirit as yet, you can ask the Father who gives liberally and He will furnish you.
The power of the Holy Ghost is not only useful in ministry; it is also very essential in personal life. The Holy Spirit can direct you on the school to attend, course to study, work to do, partner to marry, words to say, etc. You need His power to stand against all the wiles and antics of the enemy. You need His power to raise godly children and impact your generation. I wonder what any child of God can do without the power of the Holy Ghost. If you don’t have the Holy Ghost yet, it is time to ask God for Him.
