Enjoying the wait
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
Patience is not always easy, especially when life feels overwhelming or uncertain. Yet, Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that waiting on the Lord is not a passive act—it’s an opportunity to draw strength from Him.
Patience is a virtue that shapes our character, deepens our trust, and aligns us with God’s perfect timing. I’ve experienced seasons where waiting felt unbearable—praying for answers, longing for change, or hoping for restoration. In those moments, I learned that patience is not about simply enduring but about trusting God’s plan and purpose. Just as a seed takes time to grow, God’s work in our lives often unfolds slowly, but it is always worth the wait.
The Bible offers countless examples of patience leading to blessings. Abraham and Sarah waited decades for the promise of a son. Though their faith was tested, God fulfilled His word in His time. Their story reminds me that God’s promises are never delayed—they arrive at the perfect moment.
James 5:7-8 encourages us, “Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.” Like a farmer tending his crops, I’ve learned that patience requires active faith—praying, trusting, and persevering as I await God’s harvest.
Patience also transforms our relationships. Ephesians 4:2 challenges us to live “with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.” Whether in marriage, friendships, or family, I’ve found that patience helps me extend grace and love, even when it’s difficult.
Jesus Himself embodies perfect patience. In His ministry, He often waited for the right moment to act, taught His disciples with gentleness, and extended grace to those who faltered. His example reminds me that patience is not weakness but strength under control, anchored in love.
God is patient with us, and as we lean on Him, He equips us to be patient with ourselves, others, and His timing. Patience isn’t easy, but it’s a beautiful journey of trust and transformation. Let Isaiah 40:31 encourage you as you wait on the Lord, knowing He renews your strength and prepares you for what’s ahead.
