Fix Your Eyes on Jesus
“And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” —Matthew 14:29-30 (KJV)
The moment Peter saw the wind, he began to sink. Let me ask you, what are you seeing? What are you focusing on?
When Peter fixed his eyes on Jesus, he experienced the miraculous, he walked on water just like Jesus. Natural laws could not limit him. But the moment he turned his eyes away, fear took over, and he began to sink.
This is a powerful lesson for us as believers. When we focus on the storms of life, the challenges, distractions, and fears, we begin to sink under their weight. But when we fix our gaze on Jesus, we rise above them, walking in faith and victory.
The Bible says: “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” —Matthew 6:22 (KJV)
Your focus must be solely on Jesus and His promises. The One who has brought you this far will never let you down if you keep your eyes on Him. “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.” (Psalm 34:5 KJV).
As believers, we are called to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). What you see or feel today is temporary, but God’s Word is eternal and unchanging.
When we focus on our problems and challenges, doubt creeps in, and we begin to lose faith, forgetting the power within us, the Holy Spirit. But Jesus said, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23 KJV).
No one who looks unto Jesus will ever be put to shame. It is impossible! He is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). No matter the storms around you, hold onto God’s promises. You are not without help—help has come for you today in Jesus’ name!
So rise up! If you feel like you are sinking, do what Peter did—look at Jesus and cry out for help. He will come speedily!
