Garment of Praise
Isaiah 61:3 – To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
Life can be very difficult. If you look around, you will find a thousand and one reasons to complain. It’s either you have no job or you are learning too little. It’s either you are not married or you don’t have children yet or your children are difficult. It’s either your superiors at work are pressuring you or your subordinates are making leadership difficult for you. It’s either the funds are low or the debts are high. You cannot control certain things that happen to you but there is one thing you can control – your attitude, your reaction.
If you continue to consider everything happening around you and how they are affecting you, you will probably never be happy. You will probably be weighed down, frustrated and downcast. God knows this and that is why He has asked us to set our hearts on things that are above where we are seated in heavenly places in Christ. That is why He fill us with the Holy Spirit who continues to fill us with an endless supply of joy.
You may have seen difficulties in life and no one can blame you for being pessimistic about certain things. But remaining there as a Christian means that you are not living the best life that God has planned for you. He has said that He is giving you beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. One thing about God is that when He speaks a word He brings it to pass. If He said He will, it means He has given it because He does not lie and His words are “Yes and Amen” all the time.
What this means is that the next time you are in a challenging situation, look beyond the problem and focus on the promises of God. Speak His promises into your life. Keep claiming it until it becomes a reality, until the word becomes flesh. Instead of complaining, turn to God in prayers. If it seems prayer isn’t working, switch to praises and thanksgiving. Put on your garment of praise even if it seems your answer has not come; it will definitely come!

So instead of crying and complaining, put on your garment of praise. Nothing is too hard for God.
