God Has Not Forgotten Me
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”— Isaiah 49:15–16 (NIV)
There are moments in life when God feels silent. You pray, but there’s no immediate answer. You cry out for direction, yet the path seems hidden. You wait and wait, and still—nothing seems to change. In those moments, the enemy whispers the same old lie he’s spoken since Eden: “God has forgotten you.” But the truth of God’s Word shatters that lie.
In Isaiah 49, God speaks tenderly to people who feel abandoned in their suffering. They had lost their homes, their joy, and their hope. Yet God responds with one of the most compassionate promises in Scripture: “I will not forget you.”
Even if a mother could somehow forget her nursing child—a bond deeper than almost any other – God says He could never forget you. His love is stronger, His memory sharper, His care unshakable. He doesn’t overlook your pain, your tears, or your faithfulness in the waiting.
Truth about God’s Remembrance:
▪︎ God’s Memory Is Permanent.
God says, “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” This isn’t a passing thought or a temporary reminder. In ancient times, servants would sometimes tattoo the name of their master on their hands as a sign of devotion. But here, God reverses the image. The Master has engraved the servant’s name on His own hands. That’s how deeply He treasures you.
Every time He looked at His hands—the hands that formed the world, the hands that healed the sick, the hands that were nailed to the cross—He sees you. You are ever before Him. You may feel invisible, but you are imprinted on the heart of God.
▪︎ God’s Timing Is Perfect
When we feel forgotten, what we usually mean is that God’s timing doesn’t match ours. We live in a world of instant answers, but God’s work is often slow, deep, and deliberate.
Think about Joseph—sold into slavery, falsely accused, imprisoned, and forgotten by people. But in the very place he felt unseen, God was shaping him into the man who would save nations.
Or Hannah, whose tears filled years of unanswered prayer. God hadn’t forgotten her—He was preparing a Samuel, a prophet who would change Israel’s history.
And Jesus, hanging on the cross, cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” It looked like the Father had turned away. Yet even in that moment of silence, God was working out the greatest redemption story of all time.
So when you find yourself in the in-between—between the promise and the fulfillment—remember this: God’s silence is not His absence. His delay is not His denial.
