Godliness With Contentment
1Timothy 6:6 – Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
It is very easy to get worked up about things that aren’t working well in our lives. It is in our nature as humans to complain about things that we don’t have rather than to concentrate and be grateful for the things we have. It is important that we know that God our Father loves us more than we can ever love ourselves.
He knows our needs more than we think know. Despite what we see and feel, He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. In other words, you have everything you need to lead a godly and fulfilling life.
There are times we think that we could have done more only if we had that extra education, that extra money in our account, that extra connection, that extra anointing, etc but the question we fail to ask ourselves is, how well have I been able to use that which has been given to me? That talent, that gift, that education, that income, that connection, how well have you been able to maximise them?
The truth is that we already have all that we will ever need. God calls us to be contended while we work out how to efficiently use that which we have been given. Our struggles and contentions are all born out of discontentment.
You can be unsatisfied with what you have and yet be contented. Contentment is a place where you are grateful for the things you have even when you are looking for ways to improve your state of living. It goes hand in hand with godliness because in your desire to improve your state, you stay within the limits of God’s commandments.
Those who are discontent with their lives can do anything, legal or illegal, to prove a point. They cheat, steal, lie and do all kinds of things. They shun God and His standards. But it must not be so with us.
We are called first to godliness, and then to contentment. If we have Jesus, we have everything that we will ever need. He has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, we have all that pertains to life and godliness. We are complete in Him who is the head of all principalities.
What else can we possibly need? Bible calls it great gain to have godliness and contentment. How blessed we are!
