Hope Beyond the Moment
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” — 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
Life is full of moments that test our faith. Moments when prayers seem unanswered. Moments when pain feels endless. Moments when the future looks uncertain.
In those moments, our natural instinct is to focus on what we can see, the problem, the loss, the fear. But Scripture calls us to a different vision: to look beyond the moment, beyond the visible, and to anchor our hope in what is unseen and eternal.
Some truths about the moment:
- What We See Is Temporary
Paul, who wrote these words, knew hardship intimately, persecution, imprisonment, rejection, and physical suffering. Yet he described his trials as “light and momentary troubles” (2 Corinthians 4:17). How could someone who endured so much call them “light”?
Because Paul viewed them through the lens of eternity. When our eyes are fixed only on the present, our pain feels permanent. But when we lift our eyes to God’s eternal perspective, we realize that no situation, no sorrow, and no struggle lasts forever.
Everything seen — every disappointment, every delay, every difficulty — is temporary. It will pass. God’s purposes, however, remain.
- What Is Unseen Is Eternal
What we cannot see with our eyes, we can hold with faith. Hope is not wishful thinking; it’s the confident expectation that God is who He says He is and will do what He has promised.
When we can’t see the outcome, we can still trust the One who holds it. When we can’t trace His hand, we can still trust His heart.
Our hope is not rooted in circumstances but in Christ, the eternal, unchanging foundation of our lives.
Jesus Himself endured the cross “for the joy set before Him” (Hebrews 12:2). He looked beyond the suffering of the moment to the eternal glory and redemption that awaited. That same hope is available to us today.

We shouldn’t focus on our present we should focus on God’s eternal view and when we do we can overcome any challenges
