LOOKING UNTO JESUS
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” — Hebrews 12:2
There is a quiet but life-altering power in where you choose to look.
Life pulls your attention in a thousand directions; problems demand your focus, fears magnify themselves, past failures whisper for your gaze, and uncertainty tries to anchor your eyes to the ground. But Scripture calls you higher. It doesn’t say glance at Jesus. It says look unto Him; intently, deliberately, continuously.
Looking unto Jesus is not a passive act; it is a spiritual discipline.
When you look at your circumstances, you become overwhelmed. When you look at yourself, you become discouraged. But when you look at Jesus, you are transformed.
He is not merely a figure to admire from a distance; He is the author of your faith. That means your story began in Him. And He is the finisher; meaning He is committed to completing what He started in you. Your growth, your healing, your endurance are not dependent on your strength alone, but on your willingness to keep your eyes fixed on Him.
Peter walked on water only while his eyes were on Jesus. The moment he shifted his focus to the wind and waves, he began to sink. The lesson is clear: what you focus on determines whether you stand or fall.
Looking unto Jesus means:
- Trusting His character over your circumstances
- Valuing His voice over the noise around you
- Anchoring your hope in His finished work, not your unfinished progress
Today, make a conscious decision: Lift your eyes.
Not to your fears. Not to your limitations.
But to Jesus; steady, unchanging, faithful.
And as you keep looking unto Him, you will find that strength rises, peace settles, and faith deepens; not because everything around you changes, but because you are fixed on the One who never does.
