Lord, Revive Me Again
Scripture:
“Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” — Psalm 85:6 (NKJV)
Every believer, at some point in their walk with God, experiences a season where the heart grows weary and the flame burns low. The passion that once fueled prayer, worship, and obedience begins to flicker. It’s not that we stop believing — we simply stop burning. The noise of life, the pull of responsibilities, and the weight of trials can quietly drain our spiritual vitality.
It’s in these moments that we need personal revival — not a loud event or an emotional high, but a sacred return to the heart of God. The psalmist’s cry in Psalm 85:6 captures this longing perfectly: “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” Revival is God’s answer to spiritual dryness; it is His breath restoring life to what was once vibrant but has now grown still.
The Lord wants us to live a revived life. Here are the steps to be revived:
- Revival begins with Honest Recognition. Revival doesn’t begin with shouting — it begins with honesty. We can’t ask God to revive what we refuse to admit has died. Personal revival starts when we stop pretending everything is fine and confess our spiritual fatigue. God is not offended by our weakness; He is drawn to our humility.
The Lord said in Isaiah 57:15: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”
When we come before God and say, “Lord, I’ve lost my hunger,” we open the door for Him to pour out His grace again. He doesn’t despise an honest heart — He revives it.
- Revival Flows from Returning to the Word and Presence of God. There can be no true revival apart from the Word of God and the presence of God. In Nehemiah 8, when the people of Israel heard the Word read aloud after years of neglect, they wept. Why? Because the truth awakened something in them that had fallen asleep. God’s Word has that power — it convicts, comforts, and cleanses.
If you’re longing for renewal, open your Bible again, not out of duty, but out of desire. Ask the Holy Spirit to make the words come alive. Worship again, even when you don’t feel it. Spend time in quiet prayer — not always speaking, but listening. Often, revival starts not with loud moments but with silent surrender.
- Revival Restores Joy and Passion. Notice what the psalmist said: “that Your people may rejoice in You.” One of the clearest signs that you’ve experienced personal revival is joy. Not joy because everything in life is perfect, but joy because your heart is alive in God again.
When revival touches a person, their worship becomes sincere, their prayers become vibrant, and their love for others grows. They stop merely existing spiritually — they begin to live again. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead breathes new life into their heart. The world can’t give that kind of joy, and circumstances can’t take it away.
