Remember Not the Former Things
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” — Isaiah 43:18–19 (KJV)
One of the greatest obstacles to embracing God’s future is remaining attached to yesterday. Some people are held captive by painful memories, disappointments, failures, betrayals, or missed opportunities. Others are trapped by past successes, refusing to move beyond previous victories. God says, “Remember not the former things.”
This does not mean we should erase the lessons of the past, but we must refuse to allow the past to define our future. God is not limited by what has happened before. He specializes in new beginnings, fresh opportunities, restored hopes, and greater glory.
The children of Israel remembered Egypt so much that they struggled to embrace the Promised Land. Lot’s wife looked back and lost her future. Paul declared that he forgot the things behind and pressed toward the mark of God’s high calling. Your past may explain where you have been, but it does not determine where God is taking you.
Perhaps you have experienced failure, rejection, financial loss, sickness, or heartbreak. Maybe you’ve made mistakes that still haunt you. Today, God is inviting you to release every burden into His hands. The God who brought water out of the wilderness and made rivers in the desert is able to create a new path where none exists.
Do not allow yesterday’s pain to rob you of today’s opportunities. God’s mercy is new every morning, and His plans for your life are still good. Lift your eyes beyond your past and fix them on Christ. Your best days are not behind you—they are ahead of you when you walk with God.
