Rest from Fear and Anxiety

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

Fear and anxiety often arise when we feel powerless, when tomorrow is uncertain and today feels too heavy. They can come quietly, building in our thoughts, or arrive suddenly, overwhelming our hearts. No matter how they appear, fear and anxiety have one common goal: to steal our peace and shift our focus away from God.

God never intended for His children to live under the weight of constant worry. From the beginning, His desire has been for us to walk in trust, security, and rest. This is why Scripture repeatedly invites us to remember who God is faithful, sovereign, and near.

Resting from fear does not mean pretending everything is fine. It means choosing to bring our fears honestly before God and trusting Him to carry what we cannot. When Jesus says, “Come to Me,” He is offering a place of safety. In His presence, fear loses its authority, and anxiety no longer has the final word.

Often, anxiety grows when our minds dwell on “what ifs.” What if things don’t change? What if the worst happens? But Isaiah reminds us that peace comes when our minds are stayed on God, anchored in His promises rather than our uncertainties. Trust transforms our thinking. As we meditate on God’s Word, His truth replaces our anxious thoughts with hope and reassurance.

Take a quiet moment and identify what is causing fear or anxiety in your life right now. Ask yourself:

Am I carrying something God is asking me to release?

Where has fear replaced trust? What promise from God can I hold onto today?

Write these fears down and intentionally surrender them to God in prayer.

Confession:
Gracious Father, You see my heart and know the fears I carry. I confess that, at times, I allow anxiety to take over my thoughts and emotions. Today, I choose to place my trust in You. I release every worry, every fear, and every burden into Your hands.
