The Glory of the Latter House
“The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.”- Haggai 2:9
God is a God of progress, increase, and restoration. He does not intend for His children to remain in yesterday’s glory. His desire is that every season of your life surpasses the previous one.
The promise in Haggai 2:9 was spoken to a people who were discouraged because the rebuilt temple seemed insignificant compared to Solomon’s magnificent temple. Yet God assured them that the latter glory would be greater than the former.
This reminds us that God’s evaluation is different from man’s. While people often judge by outward appearance, God measures by His presence, purpose, and power. The second temple may not have matched Solomon’s in physical splendour, but it became the temple where Jesus Christ Himself walked, taught, and performed miracles. That made its glory infinitely greater.
Perhaps you feel your best days are behind you. Maybe you have experienced setbacks, disappointments, financial losses, or missed opportunities. The Lord wants you to know that your story is not over. He specialises in restoring wasted years and bringing beauty from ashes. Your latter years can become your greatest years if you remain faithful to Him.
God is able to give you greater wisdom than before, greater influence than before, greater peace than before, and greater fruitfulness than before. The pain of yesterday does not determine the possibilities of tomorrow. When God steps into your situation, He transforms ordinary endings into glorious new beginnings.
Do not compare your present season with your past. Instead, fix your eyes on God’s promises. Continue serving Him faithfully, trusting His timing, and walking in obedience. The God who began a good work in you is able to complete it in a way that exceeds your expectations.

Thank you Lord Jesus, for you have reassured me that my latter glory shall supercede the former. I hold onto your word in the book of Haggai and believing that this will continue to be my testimony. In Jesus name. Amen 🙏🏿
