Trusting God in Uncertain Times

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Uncertainty can be unsettling. When things don’t go as planned and life throws unexpected challenges our way, it’s easy to feel anxious, lost, or even doubtful about the future. As human beings, we naturally crave stability and control. We like to know what’s coming next, and when things don’t align with our expectations, we may struggle with fear and frustration. But as believers, we are called to trust God completely—even when we don’t understand what’s happening.

We often try to map out our lives, creating timelines and setting goals that we believe are best. However, when our plans fall apart—when a dream doesn’t come true, a relationship ends, or a job opportunity slips away—it can feel like we’ve lost our footing. In these moments, it’s important to remember that God sees the bigger picture. What seems like a setback to us may actually be a setup for something greater. Even when things aren’t going according to our schedule, God is still in control, working behind the scenes in ways we cannot see.

Maria, a young professional, had always been a planner. She had a clear career path mapped out and was steadily climbing the corporate ladder. But when she unexpectedly lost her job, her world seemed to shatter. She sent out countless applications, attended interviews, and faced repeated rejections. As time passed, doubt and fear crept in. She began questioning her worth, wondering if she had made a mistake in trusting God’s direction for her life. One day, as she sat in her room feeling discouraged, she came across Proverbs 3:5-6 in her daily devotional. The words spoke deeply to her heart: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. At that moment, Maria realised she had been trying to control the outcome instead of surrendering to God’s will. She made a decision to stop striving and start trusting. Instead of relying solely on her own efforts, she prayed for God’s guidance and asked Him to open the right doors. A few months later, she received an unexpected job offer that was not only better than her previous role but also aligned perfectly with her passions and skills. Looking back, she saw that if she had rushed into another job out of fear, she would have missed God’s best plan for her life.

Trusting God doesn’t mean life will always be easy or that we will instantly understand everything He’s doing. However, it does mean that we can rest in the assurance that He is leading us. Waiting on God’s timing can be difficult, but it is never wasted time. Sometimes, delays are divine protection. What we perceive as a disappointment may actually be a blessing in disguise. If you are in a season of uncertainty right now, don’t allow worry and fear to consume you. Instead, take a deep breath and remind yourself that God’s plans are always greater than ours. He sees what we cannot see. He knows what is ahead. Instead of clinging to your own understanding, surrender your plans to Him and trust that He will make your path straight. When we truly rely on God, we experience a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Confession:

I choose to trust God with all my heart. Even when I don’t understand what’s happening, I believe that He is in control. I release fear, doubt, and anxiety, and I embrace His peace. His plans for me are good, and I will walk in faith knowing that He is leading me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”
