Up till now, You Have not Asked.

Up till now, You Have not Asked.

John 16:24– Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Most times when we are in need, we are keen to complain rather than to pray about it. When we decide to, we talk to everyone else about it except God. Truth remains that there are situations that will keep us stranded except God helps us, except He intervenes. It is funny how we worry and fret over things that we cannot change. As believers, we have an advantage. God has provided us an avenue to deal with any challenge that might confront us.

One of the most common scriptural passages is Matt 7:7. Every child knows it off heart. It says, “Seek and you shall find; ask and you shall receive; knock and the door shall be opened unto you.” The thing is, most often than not, we don’t ask, we don’t seek and we don’t knock. Today’s meditation from John 16:24 tells us that up till now we have not asked. Up till now we have not knocked on that door of prayer. Up till now we have not sought.

You might want to argue that you have been praying about it. At least, that’s what you think you are doing. But how are you going about it? Badgering God with your request doesn’t sound like praying to me. Since your badgering isn’t working, let me show you a way that works. It is found in Philippians 4:6. It says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

If you have asked and not received an answer, consider trying a different approach. Consider asking in thanksgiving. Consider putting God’s will before your desires. Consider the purpose for which you are asking. Consider what your reaction would be if God says “No”. That is the definition of asking in faith – being ready to accept any response you get irrespective of whether or not it suits you, being ready to obey and do what you are told to.

Confession
Lord, I might have been praying and asking amiss. I might have been putting my desire before your will. I repent and humble myself. I ask, in thanksgiving, that you do with me whatever you will.
